Job Description

Perform engineering activities for design, development, application, customer order design, manufacture, assembly, test, installation and servicing of electrical and electro-mechanical equipment.

  • Perform engineering activities that support the design and manufacture of new Transportation Systems Division (TSD) products and the advancement of existing products.
  • Design new and/or improve existing systems and components.
  • Assist with the creation of proposals including budgets, schedules and technical specifications.
  • Meet with customers and end-users to discuss and resolve technical, financial, and schedule issues. Lead root cause evaluations of failure and defects as assigned.
  • Develop, prepare and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and design drawings.
  • Issue and maintain product manuals, training documents, presentations, contractual documents, etc.
  • Originate, select and/or maintain purchasing specifications for all components of product(s).
  • Support field service work by providing information and troubleshooting equipment both remotely and in person.
  • Develop and/or approve assembly and test processes. Direct and coordinate assembly and testing of prototype products.
  • Identify U.S. components to replace imported components and participate in vendor qualification.
  • Work with component suppliers to optimize design, improve quality, and reduce cost.
  • Perform product and equipment testing. Compile and analyze operational, test, and research data.
  • Assist and support Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality, and Sales departments with production and documentation needs.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering with 3-5 years’ experience in a design engineering capacity, or equivalent education and experience. 

Preferred Qualifications

We need electrical engineers with hands-on experience with hardware

• Experience Troubleshooting electrical and electro-mechanical equipment such as

o Motor drives and high voltage power supplies

o Complex medical or manufacturing equipment

o Robotics

• Familiar with different electrical devices

o Voltage, current, speed, temperature, and pressure sensors

o Relays, contactors, circuit breakers, and motor control devices

o Analog and digital Printed Circuit Board (PCB) components 

• Understand schematics and wiring diagrams

• Learn how equipment works and help create new designs

In addition, we are looking for at least one of the following skills

• Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design and testing

o Choose components for analog and digital circuit design

o Create schematics using ORCAD, Altium, etc.

o Oversee procurement, assembly, and testing

• Embedded systems programming of firmware/software for microprocessors and programmable logic devices using C, Java, Verilog, VHDL, etc.

• Implement automation and control using off-the-shelf equipment such as PLC’s, Labview, etc.

Bonus points if you have experience with

• Power electronics

• Motor control and/or closed- loop control theory

• Rail industry
