Job Description and Requirements

Job Description

Perform technical support, troubleshooting and training for all Transportation Services Division (TSD) product lines. Support and take leading action with troubleshooting and resolution of technical field incidents.

  • Assist and take leading action with technical field matters. 
  • Participate in technical negotiations with customers.
  • Support MELCO/MEPPI Engineering group with testing and test data analysis, including on-car and wayside testing.
  • Create formal configuration, test and support documentation for field service troubleshooting and resolution. 
  • Support TSD’s initial and ongoing response to customer design concerns.
  • Prepare reports on support and field service activities.
  • Support and review technical field documentation provided by MELCO/MEPPI for accuracy.
  • Create and conduct training programs for field service technicians and customers.
  • Coordinate the activity and logistics processes for performing field modifications.
  • Advise TSD Sales of potential new business opportunities based on customer interaction and observation.
  • Support and assist the Program Managers and the Field Service Manager as needed.
  • Further the goals and positive, professional image of the TSD by professionally representing the Company to customers, vendors and other contacts.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or related technical area with a minimum of 7 years of experience in rail transit industry, or equivalent education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge in multiple fields related to heating ventilation air conditioning, propulsion, communication based train control, solid state interlock, auxiliary power supply and networking diagnostic systems for rail cars.
  • Advanced interpersonal, communication and presentation skills required to communicate with employees, vendors and customers.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Advanced computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Office products.

Minimum Physical Requirements

  • Ability to use appropriate personal protection equipment as needed.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to stand, sit, crawl, squat, kneel, twist, bend, and reach above the shoulders as required to perform essential job functions.
  • Ability to climb ladders, catwalks, stairs, and work in high places at customer sites as required.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds on a regular basis and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to safely and properly use diagnostic, inspection and test tools and equipment. 
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 50% of the time as required and often on short notice.
