Job Description and Requirements

Job Description

Prepare bids, assist in negotiations and enter orders for Substation Division (SSD) products and services.

  • Work with Company’s region managers, manufacturers’ representatives, and through direct trade group contact, to obtain bid opportunities.
  • Prepare and submit Company technical and commercial proposals for products/services in response to a customer’s RFQ.  Interface with MELCO overseas marketing and factories, local suppliers and customers to clarify the proposal.
  • Create hard copy and electronic proposal materials featuring technical and commercial content.  Develop commercial terms review sheet and obtain approvals from appropriate LOA stakeholders within MEPPI.
  • Develop bid review presentation materials to hand out and display, and organize proposal review meetings for project negotiations.
  • Confirm customer orders are consistent with the Company proposal.  Enter orders and turnover to Project Group.  Identify all contract requirements and commitments.
  • Maintain the electronic and hardcopy bid files according to SSD standard folder pattern.
  • Conduct technical presentations to customers on company products.
  • Support and assist the Sales Manager as needed.
  • Support and make recommendations to improve Company policies and procedures.
  • Further the goals and positive, professional image of the Substation Division through interaction with other MEPPI divisions and vendors.
  • Participate in IEEE and other technical activities to support sales effort and gain understanding of product and industry.
  • Accompany customers to design reviews, factory qualification visits, witness tests, and report results

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with 0-2 years experience through internships and/or co-op programs, or equivalent education and experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • General knowledge of negotiation techniques to assist in negotiating terms and conditions with customers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer literate, emphasizing knowledge of MS Office products.

Minimum Physical Requirements

  • Ability to use office equipment, such as: PC, photocopier, fax machine, etc.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time.
  • Ability to analyze data.
  • Ability to communicate with others to complete work.
  • Ability to travel internationally on an occasional basis as required.
  • Ability to work in outdoor and indoor environments as required to perform work.
  • Ability to climb ladders, catwalks, and stairs and work in high places as required during customer visits.
  • Ability to use appropriate personal protective equipment as needed. 
  • Ability to stand and walk on rough terrain occasionally at customer visits. 
  • Hold a valid driver’s license.
