Job Description


Perform System Engineering activities in support of Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) projects. Work with System Engineering and Sub-System engineers to assure compliance to customer Interoperability Interface Specification (I2S) and other standards.

  • Collaborate with customer engineers and MELCO engineers to identify technical requirements and customer expectations.
  • Support and guide MELCO engineers in the development of the Requirements Specifications and requirements tracing to all customer specifications and I2S.
  • Function as main contact with customer for development, clarifications, allocations and tracing to MELCO design documents to insure compliance of the CBTC design to customer requirements.
  • Perform System Integration between land side equipment, vehicle equipment and other rail signaling subsystems.
  • Provide technical guidance on the testing and commissioning of the CBTC system.
  • Oversee the preparation of and/or write responses to customer technical correspondence through the Program Manager.
  • Make technical presentations during design reviews for requirements compliance and management of technical issues.
  • Support the development of the following System Engineering activities:
  • Requirements Specification
    • Architecture Description
    • Interface Description
    • System Integration and Development Plans
    • Requirements Management Plans
    • Support for internal and external Design Reviews
    • Support for Safety, RAM, V and V, T and C
  • Prepare system operational plans and reports that explain how the equipment being developed meets requirements.
  • Oversee generation of Monthly Technical Project Reports. Review and finalize reports for customer issue.
  • Maintain contract document requirement lists and track progress of items through correspondence.
  • Resolve technical issues related to the production of equipment at MEPPI.

Basic Qualifications


Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related technical field with a minimum 5 years of experience in Communication Based Train Control, or equivalent education and experience.

  • Broad knowledge of radio communication network.
  • Advanced knowledge of vital system and vital software development methodologies. 
  • Advanced knowledge of requirement development and requirements tracing to customer specifications.
  • Advanced interpersonal, communication and presentation skills required to communicate with customers and employees.
  • Advanced knowledge of the development lifecycle and lifecycle products.
  • Advanced analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Advanced computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Office products and scheduling software.
